Baldwin Hills

As I mentioned in my last post, Culver City is a pretty urban community, a small city surrounded by the megalopolis of Los Angeles.   Always on the lookout for new places to find greenery and peace, we have discovered the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook.  A winding path leads up from either Venice or Jefferson boulevards below to a series of lovely viewing spots atop this steep hill.

Most of the Los Angeles basin can be seen from up here, and to the east the San Gabriel mountains loom.  To the west is the Pacific and LAX airport.

A small, modern-looking Nature Center features exhibits that tell the story of this once drilled and exploited land which has now become a symbol of conservation and hope.  Jonathan has started a snail collection with the many shells we’ve found up on this pinnacle.

  1. Quite a hike up that hill. Lots of folks taking advantage of the scenery. Glad you and Jonathan found it. Good place for exercise and fresh air.
