Please enjoy the photos below of spectacular Canyonlands!

On my way into the Canyonlands, I stopped to marvel at Newspaper Rock, the 200 square foot rock which is covered by hundreds of ancient petroglyphs from the San Rafeal Fremont people.  It is one of the biggest (experts have identified up to 300 different images), best preserved and easily accessed panels in the Southwest. Their depictions of humans, animals,  material and abstract forms appear to roam at will across the busy rock art panel. As time went on the figures progressed from stick figures to fully formed humans and animals.  It is not known what the meaning behind these symbols are but is it fun to speculate.  A petroglyph is truly worth a thousand words.
